Casting Director: BBC

Job Introduction
The Casting Director supports the Casting Executive, Drama and works with the in house casting department
They are responsible for finding and casting actors suitable for Doctors, Casualty, EastEnders, Holby City, Father Brown & other shows and ensure that BBC output reflects the diverse nature of our audiences
They are responsible for discovering and developing Talent.
They are responsible for advising Producers and Directors on the talent network.
They advise and negotiate talent fees where necessary and have a financial understanding and the ability to manage a budget.
The perfect candidate will have a keen casting instinct, creative flair & a determined & resourceful approach

Role Responsibility
Finding and casting actors suitable for continuing scripted productions.
Discovering new talent and advising and negotiating on talent fees where necessary.
Managing the workload and day-to-day management, development and performance management of Casting Assistants and other staff.
Coordinating casting sessions, maximising the time and resources available in order to find new and existing talent.
Managing the volume of actors, agents and presenters who get in touch with the BBC and assessing their suitability.
Management and overall responsibility for sending out script breakdowns from large databases
Visits to showcases during busy school periods to see students perform in productions and assess new talent for the BBC.
Ensuring that BBC output reflects the diverse nature of our audiences
Oversee and develop the Casting Assistants

The Ideal Candidate
To be successful in this role, you must have a passion for drama television & theatre
You must have significant casting experience with a wide knowledge of actors and agents
You will have thorough knowledge of the external marketplace in theatre and in television
You will have strong knowledge of and interest in Drama production and the output of BBC Continuing Drama
You will have demonstrable understanding of programme making
You will have knowledge and relationships with agents & talent within the industry
You will need to have excellent communication & organisational skills and the ability to build relationships quickly
You will have understanding of diversity and inclusion issues as they relate to casting.

The in-house Casting department specialises in casting hugely successful dramas including EastEnders, Casualty, Holby City, Silent Witness, Father Brown and Doctors.
