Freelance Artist

£240 day rate of up to 5 hours (£120 per half day of up to 2.5 hours)
Availability to include weekdays

BALTIC Centre for Contemporary Art works with a team of Freelance Artists who deliver one-off workshops, commissioned activities and artwork and some longer term projects and residencies with a range of school groups, children and their families, communities and young people as part of our Learning and Civic Engagement Programme. These activities take place within BALTIC and, increasingly offsite in community spaces in the Tyne and Wear area and the wider North East region.

We are currently looking for 6 regionally-based artists to join our existing team and to work with us on a freelance basis.

We welcome applications from emerging artists, as well as those with more experience. We are looking to work with artists who have diverse practices and bring new skills, perspectives and opportunities to the people we work with.

Although we are interested in all applications, we are particularly keen to hear from artists with any of the following practices, skills, and/or knowledge:

Socially engaged arts practice
Co-producing arts practice (particularly over a sustained period of time)
Digital arts practice (particularly animation)
Ceramics arts practice
Printmaking
Experience of working with Early Years Children
Experience of working with children and/or adults that identify as having a disability (particularly profound and multiple learning disabilities)
Experience of youth participation

You will be asked to provide the following information when you make your application. Please note where word count restrictions apply:

A statement outlining your interest in this freelance opportunity at BALTIC and your relevant artistic and education practice, skills and experience (600 words max);
Up to 4 images of your artistic and/or education practice (4 jpeg images or no longer than 2 mins of film footage/audio)
The names and addresses of 2 referees

If successful you will be required to attend an induction at BALTIC. Freelance Artist work at BALTIC is offered on condition of DBS clearance which BALTIC provides, receipt of two satisfactory references and acceptance of terms laid out in BALTIC’s Freelance Agreement.
